Welcome to Mike's Personal Page
Your Support Means the World to Me and Every Person Suffering with Kidney Disease.

Hello Everyone

I am no Athlete, but this September 7th to 9th 2018, I will be taking on the challenge of walking 100 km for a cause that is very close to my heart.  I am taking part in Kidney March - a  3 day,100 km journey from Kananaskis to Calgary. I participated in this every year if I am physically able to, it was not an easy task by any means, and I know it is more than just a walk. This is Big, I am joining hundreds of others as a united front against Kidney Disease.

I hope I can count on your support with a donation to reach my goal. I must raise a minimum of $2,200.00 to participate, and Failure is Not an Option.

Why? Kidney disease is personal for me. My wife, daughter, and son all have a rare genetic kidney disease called Alport Syndrome. People with Alport Syndrome experience progressive loss of kidney function which can vary in severity. My son has unfortunately experienced a more aggressive case of the disease and has already been through many years of dialysis and two kidney transplants in his life.
Kidney disease affects 10% of the population, yet it is seldom spoken of and often misunderstood. Complex in nature, kidneys are two of the hardest working organs in the body. They remove waste and excess water from your body and control mineral and hormone levels. Kidneys are so important that when they aren't functioning properly every aspect of your life is touched.
Diagnosed early enough - kidney disease can be slowed. However, because you can lose 80% kidney function without any symptoms, many people don't know they have kidney disease until they are close to kidney failure. On average, 15 Canadians are newly diagnosed with kidney failure everyday.

Kidney failure can be fatal. Unfortunately, it is a leading cause of death in Canada.
 And there is no cure.

In supporting me, you are supporting The Kidney Foundation of Canada to carry out kidney disease prevention, lifesaving research, and organ donation initiatives. By being part of Kidney March I am part of Canada’s biggest effort to date to improve kidney health. How? The Kidney Foundation is a founding partner in Can-SOLVE CKD, a Canada-wide research initiative featuring 18 projects and a $40 million investment into kidney research. Now in its second year, Can-SOLVE CKD represents the largest investment into kidney research in Canadian history.Patient volunteers helped shape the research questions, and are still involved as research progresses. The Kidney Foundation has pledged $3.35 million to make this transformational research possible. By supporting me, you are supporting this ground breaking initiative in which Kidney Foundation donations are matched by federal and provincial governments as well as private partners.

Thank you for taking up the torch with me on behalf of the millions affected or at risk.

The time to make a difference is now. Failure is not an option.

Thank you!
