Your Support Means the World to Me

I am proud to say that I will be walking in my 9th Kidney March – a 100 km journey from Kananaskis to Calgary on September 7 – 9th.  I am joining hundreds of others as a united front against kidney disease. I am walking for patients, families, and healthcare providers and my hope is that the quality of life will continue to improve for all those affected by kidney disease.

I have committed to raising a minimum of $2,200 for Kidney March and I need your help.  Please sponsor me!  In supporting me, you are supporting The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Funds raised by Kidney March help the Kidney Foundation carry out kidney disease prevention, lifesaving research, and organ donation initiatives.

Why do I walk?  My daughter was born with kidney disease in addition to several other medical conditions. She has had over 100 surgeries and a countless number of hospital appointments and admissions.  She was on dialysis for eight years and received a kidney transplant nine years ago on World Kidney Day.  She was diagnosed with antibody mediated kidney rejection six years ago and the reality is that one day she will need to go back on dialysis and wait for another kidney transplant.

Kidney Disease is on the rise, affecting one in 10 Canadians and when your kidneys aren't functioning properly, it impacts every aspect of your life.  Many people don't know they have kidney disease until they are close to kidney failure because you can lose 80% kidney function without any symptoms. Kidney failure can be fatal and unfortunately, it is a leading cause of death in Canada and there is no cure.

By being part of Kidney March I am part of Canada’s biggest effort to date to improve kidney health. The Kidney Foundation is a founding partner in Can-SOLVE CKD, a Canada-wide research initiative featuring 18 projects and a $40 million investment into kidney research. Now in its second year, Can-SOLVE CKD represents the largest investment into kidney research in Canadian history. Patient volunteers helped shape the research questions, and are still involved as research progresses. The Kidney Foundation has pledged $3.35 million to make this transformational research possible. By supporting me, you are supporting this groundbreaking initiative in which Kidney Foundation donations are matched by federal and provincial governments as well as private partners.

Thank you - I really appreciate your support and I couldn't do this without you.  Together we can make a difference in the fight against kidney disease.
