Kidney Disease is on the rise, affecting one in 10 Canadians.

I am taking part in the Kidney March - a 3 day, 100 km journey from Kananaskis to Calgary. This is more than just a walk; I am joining with hundreds of others as a united front against kidney disease.

As you know, I have been working to help patients with kidney disease for more than 25 years. In that time, we still have not found a cure and people still suffer greatly with this chronic disease. Kidney disease affects 10% of the population, yet it is seldom spoken of and often misunderstood. The kidneys are complex. They remove waste and excess water from your body and control mineral and hormone levels. Kidneys are so important that when they aren't functioning properly every aspect of your life is touched. Kidney disease can be fatal.

Diagnosed early enough - kidney disease can be slowed. However, because you can lose 80% kidney function without any symptoms, many people don't know they have kidney disease until they are close to kidney failure. On average, 15 Canadians are newly diagnosed with kidney failure every day.

On September 7th, 8th, and 9th, I am participating in Kidney March. So please help our cause and donate so we can help people who really suffer with kidney disease. In supporting me, you are supporting The Kidney Foundation of Canada. Funds raised by Kidney March help the Foundation carry out kidney disease prevention, lifesaving research, and organ donation initiatives.
