Kidney Disease is on the rise, affecting one in 10 Canadians.
In Sept this year I'll be taking part in the 3day, 100km Southern Alberta (SAB) Kidney March from Kananaskis to Calgary. I am participating in this awesome fundraising event because I heard about it through a friend and thought it would be a great way to help raise support for people like my Dad that are afflicted with kidney disease.
Not only is there a personal connection to kidney disease for me, but after looking into it further I found out some startling facts. Did you know that kidney disease affects 10% of the population and is a leading cause of death in Canada? I didn’t. I also didn’t know that most people with kidney disease don’t know they have it. In fact you can lose up to 80% of kidney function without having any symptoms. If diagnosed early kidney disease can be slowed however, there is no cure.
There has never been a better time to support kidney research in Canada!! This year the Kidney Foundation of Canada in partnership with several organizations has been named to receive a dollar match up of up to $12.5 million through the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). This research will focus on a number of elements including changes in care delivery, improvement of treatment therapies, and organ donation. Funds raised by the SAB Kidney March help the Foundation carry out kidney disease prevention initiatives, lifesaving research, and organ donation initiatives.
In order to qualify to participate in the 2017 SAB Kidney march I need to raise a minimum of $2200 before Sept 2017. So, I'm reaching out to friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else that would like to donate to this great cause. If you'd like to make a donation just click on the "Sponsor me today" tab to the right of my lovely picture to make a tax deductible donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your support!!!
PS: A tax receipt will be immediately emailed to you from the Kidney Foundation of Canada should you choose to donate. If for any reason you need another copy just let me know and I can resend it to you.
